At its core, leadership is about inspiration. Then, it is about skills and abilities. Finally, it is about understanding the environment and its context. What makes the study of leadership so interesting is that:

•  Leaders are categorised by their success.
•  Success is usually defined by outcomes.
•  Outcomes are based on solid foundations of leadership competence.

This is why leadership is so different to management. Management relies on planning, coordinating, implementing, organising and directing skills. Leadership relies on these skills too, but more so on other qualities - and these can be coached.
